From the first inspection of a 2nd hand Beneteau Swift Trawler 42, the backwards and forwards of negotiation and completion formalities, Ben and his team at RBS Marine were very courteous, helpful, informative and very professional at all times.
Even now, 3 months after completion and having transferred the boat further along the South Coast, they have continued to answer various questions and queries that have arisen during my re-fit of the boat.
I am delighted to take this opportunity to add to other testimonials and say that RBS Marine are an excellent company to do business with and can be trusted whether you are buying or selling.
Having had a few sailing boats for the last 15 years we decided to move to Motor Cruisers for a little more relaxation and comfort! We looked at many boats until we found a used Rodman 41 on the RBS Marine website and arranged a viewing with Ben who spent a lot of time helping with the transition from sail to power.I made many requests for minor changes and servicing etc. which were all dealt with efficiently. Ben also helped arrange an initial handover skipper to help me with the first trip to our mooring at The Hamble, which proved extremely useful. The whole transaction was dealt with in a friendly, professional and helpful manner which has continued post sale with help dealing with the inevitable queries that arise in the first few weeks of owning, what is quite a different boat for us, but one which we are very pleased with.We would certainly be happy to use RBS again in the future.Peter & Kate
We are new to Rodman having bought a second hand Vessel from Swanwick which we berth in Chichester and it was with great surprise and pleasure to find RBS when out on a walk to Itchenor, a Rodman specialist on our doorstep! We wanted a few things doing to bring the Vessel up to scratch, these involved minor details like sourcing switches to far larger items like a new fly bridge cover, new fly and cockpit cushions as well as new signage. Paul at RBS was extremely helpful and knowledgable, sorting the right people for right jobs and his contacts with the Rodman factory are invaluable. All works have been very competitively priced and the service has been excellent. RBS is the only place I need go to now and would highly recommend you pay them a visit too.
I am an experienced blue water sailor, and so I have dealt with very many members of the marine industry.
I have just bought a Saltram 31 double ended cutter rigged yacht from RBS Marine.
RBS Marine provided the most pleasant and professional service I have ever experienced, all my questions were answered fully and honestly, all my requirements were fully met.
RBS Marine is the best organisation I have ever dealt with in the marine industry, and I strongly recommend them to all.
"It was Ben’s cheerful and friendly approach on our first visit to the RBS Marine office that made us decide that we would choose RBS Marine to handle the sale of our boat. Paul, Ben’s colleague, was very helpful - he came on board our boat and took photos of many aspects of the boat and informed us what information was required in order to put the boat up for sale on the RBS Marine website. During the whole process of selling our boat both Ben and Paul have been very efficient and cooperative. We are therefore very happy to recommend RBS Marine Chichester."
I am 67 years old and have had a variety of boats over the last 38 years and own a logistics business employing over 200 people. I have a Dale Nelson 38 and also a newly acquired Belliure Bellimar 890 from RBS Marine. I live in a Marina Village with 225 other residents who share the same interests – boats! The purchase experience with RBS Marine is the best I have ever had. The boat was well presented, exactly as described, obvious improvements were offered and fitted at no additional cost and any subsequent queries I had were promptly answered -even in the middle of the Southampton Boat Show! I have no hesitation in recommending RBS Marine as first class people to deal with – quite exceptional in the marine industry.
For many years I have dreamt of owning a boat but, for financial reasons, had to wait until relatively late in life until I could meet this objective. After perusing many boating magazines I decided that I wanted something about 30 feet long and then started making serious enquiries. I soon learnt that this was not going to be an easy journey with my total ignorance of ‘things boating’ not being treated at all sympathetically. However, I then met Ben Stevens the managing director of RBS Marine and from then on everything ran smoothly. Not only were the boats he had on offer impressive, but more importantly he came across as a genuine a straight talking guy, who never once gave me any pressure but did instil great confidence.
On delivery, the package included three days of excellent tuition provided by Paul Merritt and since then Ben and his colleague Paul Joel have given superb after sales service, in contrast to so many firms who lose interest once a sale has been completed.
When you buy a new boat you part with an awful lot of money up front and Ben made sure that this process was secure and as stress free as possible.
The new Rodman family of boats are really attractive and incredibly exciting machines. Consequently with a combination of a Rodman and Ben you cannot do better. I would recommend RBS Marine to any potential boat owner without any reservation at all.
I am sure my wife and I are now going to enjoy our new adventure thanks to all the help we have been given.
Ben did a great job selling my 34' sailing boat. He gave me sound advice re. the asking price, organised the viewings, and kept me in touch with progress. He sold it much sooner than I expected, and the whole process went smoothly without any problems. Thanks Ben!
Our Rodman adventure to date,
Feb 2013,I wanted a boat that I could really use all year round for fishing, diving and cruising,
But my better half also wanted a boat with all the luxury and homely creature comforts, which one gets accustomed too.
So after looking at the various models on the market the Rodman model kept ticking all the boxes.
After some emails and phone calls to Ben at RBS Marine we were invited over to look at the new and second hand boats at RBS yard in Birdham Pool.
We originally intended to purchase the 1040 model as I thought I needed a boat that I could handle single handed from time to time, but we looked at the 1040, 1170, and the 1250 models hopping between each boat and eventually we both agreed on the 1170 model which with the IPS system was no problem to handle on your own.
The 1170 had everything we were looking for, big deck space, rear transom door, walk around side deck, and also the fly bridge, interior and cherry wood work was of the highest finish, but what really clinched it for me was the quality behind the scenes that you don't see until you get down on your hands and knees and start looking behind the bulk heads, under the lazerette and in the engine bay.
We then gave RBS marine our wish list of extras and RBS delivered it on time and for the budget that we agreed at our February meeting, we took delivery of Carrera on April 14th, had a 3 day handover and cruised back to Guernsey with the aid of RBS skipper Paul Merrit.
Special thanks must also go to Paul & Sean which make up the rest of the RBS marine team.

A telephone conversation with Ben Stevens showed that he knew Rodmans inside out. I was invited to Birdham Pool, where Ben discussed the range with me, and showed me the boats he had in stock at the time and demonstrated the manoeuvrability of the IPS system. He then devoted many hours driving me to see some used boats. Six months later I purchased a used Rodman, and Ben and his team arranged all the details efficiently, including checking the boat over, fixing any problems, and arranging delivery to Dartmouth. Nothing was too much trouble.
I would like to thank Ben and Paul and team for their help, efficiency, and patience in acquiring my dream boat.
It's now nearly 2 months since we took delivery of our new Rodman 1250 hardtop and after plodding around in a 40 tonne fishing vessel at 8 knots for most of my life, it's a pleasure to be back at sea in such a good quality boat. The comfort and ease of handling at speed is second to none. The quality of product equates to the quality of pre and post sale service that we have received from Ben and the RBS Marine staff.
They have always been at the end of the phone to discuss any scatter-brain ideas I've had for the boat and all the work they have carried out has been of the highest standard. Fish Tickler III is available for charter (visit http://www.fishtickler3.co.uk for more information) and we have more plans for her - we're not finished yet! Thank you RBS marine - you have made an old man very happy!
I would just like to say that your service has been absolutely brilliant in all
dealings over this new Rodman and I would have no hesitation in recommending
your company to any perspective purchasers. Everything has been dealt with
very proficiently and any problems have been sorted out with the minimum of fuss and effort, absolutely great!
Lady Sabina is a Rodman 810. She measures 24.6 feet at the water line, weighing 5½ ton, and nearer 6 ton with all our belongings aboard, you can see straight away that this is a sea boat. Fuel economy is very good, the Volvo DA-225 Engine using 1½ gallons per hour at cruising speed.
We are moored at Fosdyke in Lincolnshire, one of the UK’s largest and quirkiest estuaries (The Wash). This is why I got a Rodman 810 (a sea boat).
Lady Sabina is without doubt the safest boat I have owned in 50 years of boating. She regularly undertakes sixty mile round trips for both pleasure and fishing, and it is very comforting to know that you are surrounded by a quality, robust, sea going vessel when the going gets rough.
Being on the East Coast we get plenty of easterly seas and wind which could make sitting at anchor uncomfortable, but with her weight and hull design Lady Sabina sits well, unlike any planing boat there is no slamming, no need to worry.
Lady Sabina goes with comfort below decks and toilet facilities are great.
Trips along the Welland, enjoying the diversity of wild life found there is a great delight during summer evenings.
She is fitted with a Garmin 5008 plotter, GHC 10 auto steer and VHF AIS radio which really are a big plus. When you are in The Wash you really do not need to go aground. Stainless Steel hand rails round the stern are a big plus and the fitting of a bow thruster made the boat complete. So you see this all adds up to quality.
Having met RBS Marine at the Excel Boat Show in 2011, Mr Ben Stevens and his team was the icing on the cake for me. Nothing is too much trouble for Ben. We have had Lady Sabina for almost two years now and I have to say a very big thank you Ben and his team.
Being an avid (although not very proficient) angler and boater of many years, we were looking to purchase a boat for use and charter work in the Seychelles. After looking at many a boat and configuration, we narrowed our selection to the Rodman 1250 Fisherpro. To our disappointment after many discussions with the helpful and professional factory staff, we decided that a new boat was beyond our wherewithal.
I thus started my ‘fishing’ on the internet and discovered a Blessing…. Ben Stevens of RBS Marine, the Rodman agents in West Sussex, Birdham Pool Marina, Chichester.
Some months later and after lengthy negotiations we acquired a 2007 Rodman Fisherpro.
Ben and his team were outstanding, organizing the surveyor, service, fitment of updated electronics, shipping and insurance. We were communicated with frequently and continually assured that we were in a ‘safe harbour’.
Our ‘new’ boat arrived safe and ‘pirate free’ in the Seychelles, after a six-week voyage.
We have run into one or two problems that originated from a bent ‘P’ bracket (probably during trans-shipment). This we discovered after having to replace the clutch in the port motor.
I am pleased and relived that Ben and his Team at RBS Marine have done the name of Rodman and his profession proud. He has stood by us way and beyond the call of duty, dealt with my frustrations and ‘foghorn’, sourced and shipped parts, and been a fountain of wisdom and advice.
Many customers are quick to complain, myself included and NO we are not always right. I really do feel that Ben and RBS Marine need their ‘horn’ blown for outstanding commitment and professionalism.
